Additionally, Goodnotes requested 3 shorter versions of the main video, each tailored to highlight specific features for different target audiences. We tackled the challenge by adopting a modular approach, allowing us to organise and reorganise the video's sequence to suit various purposes, all while ensuring a logical progression. We divided the scenes during the scripting and animation stages, providing us with the flexibility to easily rearrange and interchange them as needed. Stylistically, our aim was to seamlessly integrate Goodnotes' rebranding, immersing viewers in its vibrant design. By incorporating stylised 3D elements, dynamic camera movements, and relatable everyday scenarios, we created an experience that allowed users to step into the delightful world of Goodnotes. Our visual direction for this campaign centred around highlighting the consistency in guest experiences and The Peninsula's exceptional ability to create special and memorable moments across continents. Interested in showcasing 5 of their hotels in cities around the world (Tokyo, Shanghai, Bangkok, Beverly Hills and Manila), we teamed up with 5 influencers, 1 in each city to shoot the campaign. We approached the project with a modular mindset, breaking down the key experiences at the Peninsula, and came up with 5 categories to focus on — destinations around the Peninsula, fun transportation services offered by the hotels, their one-of-a-kind swimming pools, the stunningly luxurious suites and their exclusive restaurants. Utilising fun and interactive camera transitions, this allowed us to be able to shuffle clips around and create more videos for different audiences. The video would be showcased at their event and also used online. The objective was to take viewers on a journey through HKEX's significant milestones to showcase their progress over the years. Considering that the event would take place in their largest space, we had to devise a concept that would suit the expansive horizontal screen (4K x 1K) and accommodate a physical gong, a symbolic element of HKEX, positioned at the centre of the stage in front of the screen. This presented a challenge as the lower middle portion of the screen would be obstructed by the gong, thus rendering it unusable. Rather than allowing the gong to pose a problem, we turned it into an integral part of the video. Our proposal involved utilising the gong as a visual divider between different sections of HKEX's history. The video was divided into three parts: the establishment of HKEX, its growth and ascent, and its current status and future prospects. At the conclusion of each section, an animated sequence originating from the gong denoted a transition in time. Drawing inspiration from their brand colours of black, white, and red, we brought their logo to life and positioned it as the central figure in the video. The red dot within the logo took on a prominent role, guiding the viewer's focus and seamlessly transitioning from one scene to another. The team came up with a game that challenged users to hit the brakes at exactly 1.6 seconds, to win a chance to meet the one and only Lewis Hamilton. I was responsible for creating the case study video using footage provided by Marriott, supplemented with a selection of stock footage clips. The primary challenge I faced was that the video was entirely in Mandarin, while I am an English speaker. Having grown up in Hong Kong, I am accustomed to hearing Cantonese and Mandarin regularly, giving me a basic understanding of both languages. I relied on this familiarity to ensure that the timing of the voiceover, as well as the supers and subtitles, were appropriately aligned. I also held regular check-ins with my Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking producer and fellow video editor to confirm that everything was coherent and accurately placed. With their support and a few minor adjustments, we successfully completed the video. I had complete creative freedom to take the existing videos and transform them into a dynamic reel that would elicit those "wow" and "aha!" moments. Using funky music and snappy transitions, I infused the reel with an extra dose of energy. Fast forward to the following year, and guess what? They trusted me with the same task again, but this time, we took it up a notch. We decided to sprinkle in some office shenanigans to make the whole video even more relatable and personable. It was a blast capturing those hilarious moments and weaving them into the reel.
