HFW
One of the projects I had the opportunity of overseeing from start to finish at Carbon was a video introducing HFW’s new location in the Greater Bay Area in Shenzhen, China. The primary challenge I faced was that the video was entirely in Mandarin, while I am an English speaker.
Having grown up in Hong Kong, I am accustomed to hearing Cantonese and Mandarin regularly, giving me a basic understanding of both languages. I relied on this familiarity to ensure that the timing of the voiceover, as well as the supers and subtitles, were appropriately aligned. I also held regular check-ins with my Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking producer and fellow video editor to confirm that everything was coherent and accurately placed. With their support and a few minor adjustments, we successfully completed the video.
